1- A mother duck and her little ducklings were on their way to a lake one day. The ducklings were very happy following their mother and quack-quacking along the way. All of a sudden, the mother duck saw a fox at a distance. She was frightened, and shouted, “Children, hurry to the lake. There’s a fox!”
2- The ducklings hurried towards the lake. The mother duck wondered what to do. Then she began to walk back and forth dragging one wing on the ground. When the fox saw her, he became happy. He said to himself, “It seems she’s hurt and can’t fly! I can easily catch and eat her!” He ran towards her.
3- The mother duck ran, leading the fox away from the lake. The fox followed her. Now he wouldn’t be able to harm her ducklings. The mother duck looked towards her ducklings and saw that they had reached the lake. She was relieved, so she stopped and took a deep breath. The fox thought that she was tired and he came closer, but the mother duck quickly spread her wings and rose up in the air. She landed in the middle of the lake and her ducklings swam to her.
4- The fox stared in disbelief at the mother duck and her ducklings. The mother duck had tricked him cleverly. Now he could not reach them because they were in the middle of the lake

1- Un jour, une maman canard et ses petits canetons étaient en route vers un lac. Les canetons étaient très heureux de suivre leur mère en caquetant joyeusement tout le long du chemin. Tout à coup, la maman canard vit un renard au loin. Elle fut effrayée et cria : « Enfants, dépêchez-vous d’aller au lac. Il y a un renard ! »
2- Les canetons se dépêchèrent vers le lac. La maman canard se demanda que faire. Puis elle commença à marcher de long en large en traînant une aile sur le sol. Quand le renard la vit, il devint content. Il se dit : « Il semble qu’elle est blessée et ne peut pas voler ! Je peux facilement l’attraper et la manger ! » Il courut vers elle.
3- La maman canard se mit à courir, attirant le renard loin du lac. Le renard la suivit. Maintenant, il ne pouvait plus faire de mal à ses canetons. La maman canard regarda en direction de ses canetons et vit qu’ils avaient atteint le lac. Elle fut soulagée, elle s’arrêta et prit une grande inspiration. Le renard pensa qu’elle était fatiguée et s’approcha, mais la maman canard déploya rapidement ses ailes et s’envola dans les airs. Elle atterrit au milieu du lac et ses canetons nagèrent vers elle.
4- Le renard regarda avec incrédulité la maman canard et ses canetons. La maman canard l’avait trompé habilement. Maintenant, il ne pouvait pas les atteindre car ils étaient au milieu du lac.
Morale: La ruse et la présence d’esprit peuvent sauver des vies en situation de danger.
