1- Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire.
2- Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot and ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup.
3- Turning to her, he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?” “Potatoes, eggs and coffee,” she hastily replied. “Look closer”, he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.
4- Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face. “Father, what does this mean?” she asked.
He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity-the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard. However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.
5- “Which one are you?” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?”
6- Moral: In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is how you choose to react to it and what you make out of it. Life is all about leaning, adopting and converting all the struggles that we experience into something positive.

1- Il était une fois une fille qui se plaignait à son père que sa vie était misérable et qu’elle ne savait pas comment elle allait s’en sortir. Elle était fatiguée de se battre et de lutter tout le temps. Il semblait que dès qu’un problème était résolu, un autre suivait rapidement. Son père, un chef, l’emmena à la cuisine. Il remplit trois casseroles d’eau et les plaça chacune sur un feu vif.
2- Une fois que les trois casseroles commencèrent à bouillir, il mit des pommes de terre dans une casserole, des œufs dans la deuxième et des grains de café moulus dans la troisième. Il les laissa ensuite bouillir, sans dire un mot à sa fille. La fille, gémissait et attendait impatiemment, se demandant ce qu’il faisait. Après vingt minutes, il éteignit les brûleurs. Il sortit les pommes de terre de la casserole et les plaça dans un bol. Il sortit les œufs et les plaça dans un bol. Puis il versa le café et le mit dans une tasse.
3- Se tournant vers elle, il demanda : “Ma fille, que vois-tu ?” “Des pommes de terre, des œufs et du café,” répondit-elle précipitamment. “Regarde de plus près,” dit-il, “et touche les pommes de terre.” Elle le fit et remarqua qu’elles étaient molles. Il lui demanda ensuite de prendre un œuf et de le casser. Après avoir retiré la coquille, elle observa l’œuf dur.
4- Enfin, il lui demanda de goûter le café. Son riche arôme fit apparaître un sourire sur son visage. “Père, qu’est-ce que cela signifie ?” demanda-t-elle. Il expliqua ensuite que les pommes de terre, les œufs et les grains de café avaient chacun fait face à la même adversité : l’eau bouillante. Cependant, chacun réagit différemment. La pomme de terre était forte, dure et implacable, mais dans l’eau bouillante, elle devint molle et faible. L’œuf était fragile, avec une fine coquille extérieure protégeant son intérieur liquide jusqu’à ce qu’il soit mis dans l’eau bouillante. Puis l’intérieur de l’œuf devint dur. Cependant, les grains de café moulus étaient uniques. Après avoir été exposés à l’eau bouillante, ils changèrent l’eau et créèrent quelque chose de nouveau.
5- “Lequel es-tu ?” demanda-t-il à sa fille. “Quand l’adversité frappe à ta porte, comment réagis-tu ? Es-tu une pomme de terre, un œuf ou un grain de café ?”
6- Morale : Dans la vie, des choses se passent autour de nous, des choses nous arrivent, mais la seule chose qui compte vraiment est la manière dont vous choisissez de réagir et ce que vous en faites. La vie consiste à apprendre, à adopter et à transformer toutes les luttes que nous vivons en quelque chose de positif.
