1- Once, there was a huge tree with a broad trunk and innumerable branches right in the middle of a dry land. The tree gave rest and shelter to hundreds and thousands of travelers. Being located near four towns, and many villages, the tree was an ideal meeting point for travelers.
2- One day, two travelers reached the tree after a long time of walking. Their destination was one of the towns nearby. It was a hot and sunny day, and the travelers were very happy to take a rest under the tree. Exhausted, they slumped under the tree. They slept for a while, enjoying the cool shade and the soft breeze.
After a while, one of the travelers got hungry. They had no food with them. The hungry traveler looked up at the tree, to see if there was any fruit. Finding none, he began to curse the tree. “Oh, this is just a useless tree and it has nothing to feed us, not even a fruit or even nuts! It is of no use!”
3- The other traveler comforted him and asked him to stay cool. However, the hungry man continuing cursing the tree.
The tree, which could not tolerate the cursing words of the traveler, said in a sad yet strong voice, “You can’t be so ungrateful to me. Just think of your condition when you reached here in the hot and dry sun! I offered you a cool and comfortable place to rest and sleep with a soothing breeze. If I was not here, you would have died now! I saved your life from the hot sun, but you humiliate me!” The traveler realized his mistake and apologized to the tree.

1- Il était une fois un énorme arbre avec un tronc large et d’innombrables branches, en plein milieu d’une terre aride. L’arbre offrait repos et abri à des centaines et des milliers de voyageurs. Situé près de quatre villes et de nombreux villages, l’arbre était un point de rencontre idéal pour les voyageurs.
2- Un jour, deux voyageurs atteignirent l’arbre après une longue marche. Leur destination était l’une des villes proches. C’était une journée chaude et ensoleillée, et les voyageurs étaient très heureux de se reposer sous l’arbre. Épuisés, ils s’effondrèrent sous l’arbre. Ils dormirent un moment, profitant de l’ombre fraîche et de la douce brise. Après un certain temps, l’un des voyageurs eut faim. Ils n’avaient pas de nourriture avec eux. Le voyageur affamé leva les yeux vers l’arbre pour voir s’il y avait des fruits. N’en trouvant aucun, il commença à maudire l’arbre. “Oh, cet arbre est inutile et il n’a rien à nous offrir, même pas un fruit ou des noix ! Il ne sert à rien !”
3- L’autre voyageur le réconforta et lui demanda de rester calme. Cependant, l’homme affamé continua de maudire l’arbre. L’arbre, qui ne pouvait pas tolérer les paroles blessantes du voyageur, dit d’une voix triste mais forte : “Tu ne peux pas être si ingrat envers moi. Pense simplement à ta condition quand tu es arrivé ici sous le soleil brûlant et sec ! Je t’ai offert un endroit frais et confortable pour te reposer et dormir avec une brise apaisante. Si je n’étais pas ici, tu serais mort maintenant ! J’ai sauvé ta vie du soleil brûlant, mais tu m’humilies !” Le voyageur réalisa son erreur et s’excusa auprès de l’arbre.
